Why local partners matter

Recovery works better when people know where to turn

Many communities already receive found property. ReturnHaven adds a visible, structured route between that local custody and the person searching for the item.

Faster found-item intake

Record a found item close to where it was discovered instead of waiting for the owner to find the right desk.

An accountable collection point

Keep the physical item with a recognizable local institution while the recovery process happens.

Better local discovery

Make locally held items visible to people searching by useful case and location details.

Safer handovers

Coordinate collection through an appropriate public location and keep a simple record of release.

A guided start

Partnerships begin with one real operating location

The first version is intentionally assisted. We learn how an existing desk works, identify a responsible contact, and set up a focused recovery point rather than opening an unchecked directory.

  1. 01

    Discuss the location

Tell us where found items are currently received and how people normally ask for them.

  2. 02

    Confirm a responsible contact

ReturnHaven uses lightweight, manual checks to establish a credible institution contact.

  3. 03

    Complete assisted setup

The initial organization presence is created with ReturnHaven support, not through open self-service registration.

  4. 04

    Start with found items

The first priority is helping the location record, hold, and safely return items already reaching its desk.

Clear launch boundaries

Useful now, without pretending to be a full partner portal

What a recovery point can support

  • Post or assist with found-item reports
  • Record basic custody details
  • Review private ownership evidence through the available process
  • Coordinate collection at an accountable location
  • Confirm release and report disputes

What the first version does not promise

  • Open, instant partner onboarding
  • Branch or staff-management tools
  • A way to bypass proof or moderation
  • Recovery fees, rewards, or facilitation payments
  • Mandatory photographs of recipients

Custody-first recovery

The item can arrive before the digital case

A community desk may receive an item first. ReturnHaven then helps make that custody discoverable while keeping ownership proof and handover details appropriately private.

  1. STEP 01

    Receive the found item

  2. STEP 02

    Record basic details

  3. STEP 03

    Publish the case

  4. STEP 04

    Receive private ownership proof

  5. STEP 05

    Review the claim

  6. STEP 06

    Release and confirm

What verification means

A trust signal identifies a real local recovery actor

Partner verification reflects the information and credible signals available to ReturnHaven at the time. It does not guarantee ownership, remove the need for careful evidence, or exempt an institution from moderation.

  • Every claimant still needs appropriate ownership proof.
  • Partners follow the same posting and safety expectations.
  • Disputed or unclear claims should pause release and move to review.

Partnership questions

What institutions should know

Can an institution create its own partner account today?

Not through open self-service onboarding. Early partnerships are set up with ReturnHaven so the operating location and responsible contact can be understood properly.

Does ReturnHaven take custody of found items?

No. The participating institution remains responsible for items physically held at its location and for following its own appropriate custody procedures.

Does a partner badge guarantee a claimant is the owner?

No. The badge relates to the institution's recovery role. Ownership must still be assessed from private, item-specific evidence.

Can a partner charge people to recover an item?

ReturnHaven does not authorize recovery fees, rewards, or informal facilitation payments as part of this process.
