Safety & Trust

Recovery works better when safety is part of every step

ReturnHaven combines privacy-conscious posting, private ownership evidence, reporting, moderation, and safer handover guidance. These safeguards support better decisions without pretending every user or post is verified.

The central safety rule

Public information helps discovery. Private information helps verification and handover.

Do not combine those information layers unless the recovery step genuinely requires it.

Four principles guide the recovery journey

Discover publicly

Share enough item, time, and approximate location information to help relevant people discover a case.

Verify privately

Keep useful proof details outside the public post and review them through the appropriate private flow.

Coordinate carefully

Release contact, pickup, or handover details only when the situation and available recovery step justify it.

Confirm honestly

An accepted claim or lead is not a completed recovery. Confirm completion only after the handover occurs.

Before you post

Protect the details that protect the owner

The most useful public post is not always the most detailed post. Some information should remain private for safety or ownership checks.

Share carefully

  • Use an approximate public location
  • Describe visible features that support discovery
  • Crop or obscure sensitive document information
  • Keep one distinctive detail for private verification

Keep private

  • Exact home or private handover addresses
  • Full passport, ID, bank-card, serial, or IMEI numbers
  • Passwords, PINs, one-time codes, or account credentials
  • A child's routine, exact address, school schedule, or medical history

Ownership evidence

Ask for facts a rightful owner is more likely to know

Private proof supports a recovery decision but does not make ReturnHaven a court or ownership authority.

  • 1A hidden scratch, sticker, engraving, or other distinctive mark
  • 2A partial serial, IMEI, registration, receipt, or document detail
  • 3The contents or internal features of a bag or wallet
  • 4A lock-screen detail that does not require unlocking the device
  • 5The specific context in which the item was lost

Never ask for passwords, PINs, one-time codes, full financial credentials, or remote access to a device.

Trust signals

Useful context, never a guarantee

ReturnHaven keeps account, contact, organization, moderation, and payment concepts separate so one label cannot imply more than it proves.

Account and contact signals

An account or verified contact method can add context, but it does not prove ownership or good intent.

Verified organizations

A verified organization signal means the institution was reviewed as a legitimate local recovery actor. It does not bypass ownership proof or moderation.

No pay-to-trust

Payments or future premium access must remain separate from trust, visibility decisions, and moderation outcomes.

Reporting and moderation

Reports are signals, not automatic verdicts

ReturnHaven can review, hide, or remove risky content while keeping post moderation separate from account-level action.

  1. 01

    Report the concern

Use the reporting flow for abuse, fraud concerns, unsafe personal details, misleading cases, or other policy issues.

  2. 02

    Content may be reviewed

A case can be kept visible, placed under review, hidden temporarily, or removed depending on the available evidence and risk.

  3. 03

    Account action stays separate

One problematic post does not automatically suspend an account. Repeated or severe confirmed abuse can lead to narrower restrictions or loss of access.

  4. 04

    Appeals support correction

Eligible content or account decisions can be appealed through a focused review and may be upheld or reversed.

Safer handovers

Plan for the real-world part of recovery

Meet in daylight

Prefer a busy public place during daylight hours.

Use an accountable location

Consider a recognized institution, security office, police station, school office, or community recovery desk.

Tell someone you trust

Share the public meeting details and bring another trusted adult when appropriate.

Leave if plans change

Stop the handover if the location, request, pressure, or behaviour differs materially from what was agreed.

For emergencies or immediate danger

Contact the appropriate police, emergency service, guardian, responsible authority, or trusted local institution. Do not delay an official report while waiting for a ReturnHaven response or alert.

Use the right guidance for the next step

Review the complete safety guide before arranging a handover, or contact ReturnHaven about a safety or privacy concern.
